Shailene Woodley, Theo James & More Divergent Stars Explain Faction Life—Watch Now!

For the characters living in the dystopian world created by Divergent author Veronica Roth, the phrase "Faction Before Blood" is a way of life.

But what does it really mean to be a part of a faction? Roth, along with the stars of the highly anticipated movie adaptation, explain the idea of living a certain lifestyle that corresponds to the five factions introduced in the novel in an official and newly released clip from Summit Entertainment.

"At some point in everybody's life, you have to decide if you're gonna stick with the way you were raised or listen to your own internal compass?" Roth asks.

The book describes five factions—Amity, Candor, Erudite, Abnegation and Dauntless—or ways of life, and as actress Shailene Woodley, who plays the main character Tris, explains, "In the Divergent world, once you leave the nest, there is no going back."

Woodley adds, "These paradigms of thinking—compassion, honesty, intelligence, selflessness and bravery—represents society."

Meanwhile, Theo James, who takes on the role of Four in the movie, further explains, "After so many years of war and pain, humanity has a reached a time where the only way they perceive themselves to survive is to create a new system of democracy, and that is splitting ourselves into five different ways of thinking—five factions."

Forget five star restaurants!

Shailene Woodley is perfectly happy to find her next meal at the—wait for it—farm.

That's right, the Divergent star recently opened up to Flaunt magazine about her remarkably un-Hollywood approach to life, and we're pretty sure her all-natural lifestyle will have a few of you feeling guilty about your last meal.

"I think everything about my lifestyle is fairly alternative," Woodley revealed. "I gather my own spring water from mountains every month. I go to a farm to get my food."

So much for delivery!

And don't expect the 21-year-old to rely on a fancy chef to whip up her organic goods into a healthy meal for her. On the contrary, the Golden Globe nominated actress is very hands-on when it comes to stocking her home with all the essentials.

"I make everything from my own toothpaste to my own body lotions and face oils. I could go on for hours," she says. "I make my own medicines; I don't get those from doctors. I make my own cheese and forage wild foods and identify wild plants."

Normally, we'd be surprised to learn that a star with so many projects and red carpet commitments would have that much time on her hands, but the low-key Woodley has been known to hit premieres with no makeup and wet hair.

And we're guessing her new short ‘do has probably helped her cut down on her red carpet prep time, too.

But time consuming or not, we're guessing Woodley will stick to her alternative practices.

"It's an entire lifestyle," she said. "It's appealing to my soul."

Wowza!

Shailene Woodley gave readers an eyeful in her skin-baring photo shoot for Interview magazine. The 21-year-old went topless for one photo, wearing only a high-waisted skirt and covering her chest with her arm.

The punk-themed spread shed a new, more grownup light to the Hollywood starlet.

Woodley also revealed more than just her body to the fashion mag, she opened up about her body image and learning to feel comfortable with her appearance.

"I saw somebody, which I thought was me, in a magazine once, and I had big red lips that definitely did not belong on my face," she explained.

"I had boobs about three times the size they are in real life. My stomach was completely flat. My skin was also flawless. But the reality is that I do not have those lips and my skin is not flawless and I do have a little bit of a stomach."

She added, "It was not a proper representation of who I am. I realized that, growing up and looking at magazines, I was comparing myself to images like that—and most of it isn't real."

But she did say that getting dolled up at times is as fun as it looks.

"I get to be like a five-year-old again, wearing my Cinderella dress," she said of dressing up for the Academy Awards. "But for some events where it's a more casual vibe, I just want to be me."

And while the racy spread is a departure for the young actress, she felt it was important not to wear too much makeup in a bid to show fans and readers alike who she really is.

She looks stunning!
